Paula grew up with Chesapeake Bay Retrievers
since she was very young.
The love and devotion for the breed is still engraved in
her heart!
She had owned other breeds later as an adult but never
got over the true love in her heart.. The Chessie!
After Paula and Don's last dog, "Chelsea" a loving
and sweet black Labrador past away of old age, it was a while before they finally accepted that they
needed a dog in their life.
Paula said she would never get another breed again unless
it was a Chesapeake Bay Retriever.
She set out to find that perfect dog for her and her family.
Although Don, a very avid hunter, saw pictures,
heard about this terrific breed from Paula, even met some, he was still a bit unsure there really could be
a dog like she had described to him. He never knew what was about to hit his heart until...
Their first Chessie "Gunner" was purchased in late March
of 2003.
"Gunner"
exceeded all their expectations. He truly and quickly became a best friend and member of their family.
Gunner is the example of what a true Chessie should be =a totally
versatile dog in every aspect.
They thought
if they could find a female that was half as good in temperament and qualities they would get a second Chessie.
This really had to be a girl that would be versatile and would
also match with Gunner.
They looked at many litters, talked to many breeders and finally
found a female.
That day came in late 2003 with the addition to their family of
"Remi"and it has been "Chessie Heaven" since.
Their dogs are not
only their family, living in their home with Paula and Don & their four children, but are also their
constant companions in the field, schools, family outings, ball games, work, vacations and every aspect of their life.
Each
of their puppies have excelled in versatility just like, if not more than their parents. Exactly what they
strive for in breeding.
